Universal’s Dracula Adaptation The Last Voyage of the Demeter Moves Release Dates

There’s no shortage of vampire content, and fans of the bloodsucking creatures are expecting plenty of content to come. There are several Dracula projects in the work, including The Last Voyage of Demeterwhich is based on “The Captain’s Log”, a chapter of Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula. According to Deadlinethe next movie has been pushed back to next summer.

The Last Voyage of Demeter “tells the terrifying tale of the merchant ship Demeter, which has been chartered to transport private cargo – fifty unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive to the ocean voyage, stalked every night by a presence aboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the coast of England, it is a charred, abandoned wreck. There is no trace of the ‘crew.

The next film is expected to star Corey Hawkins (In the heights, straight out of Compton) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi (The iron Throne, The Nightingale) as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans) as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian (Dunes, The Suicide Squad) as Demeter’s second. The cast also includes Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff and Javier Botet.

The Last Voyage of Demeter isn’t the only Dracula movie in the works. Nicolas Cage will play the famous vampire in Renfield, which recently completed production. The film was directed by Chris McKay (Tomorrow’s War The LEGO Batman Movie) and will star Nicholas Hoult as the title character, Dracula’s henchman. The screenplay was written by rick and mortyby Ryan Ridley, based on an overview of The Walking Dead and Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman. In addition to Cage and Hoult, the film will feature Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star, Awkwafina as well as sonic the hedgehogof Ben Schwartz who recently raved about Cage’s role in the film.

The Last Voyage of Demeter is set to hit theaters on August 11, 2023. Renfield is set to hit theaters on April 14, 2023.
