Ministry of Transport to Host International Conference on Green Ship Recycling and Vehicle Scrapping in Gandhinagar

With the aim of presenting the state of the ship recycling industry in Alang and exploring the synergies of the ship recycling industry in Alang with the vehicle scrapping industry, the Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways, along with Gujarat Maritime Council and FICCI, will hold an international conference in Gandhinagar, the officials said on Sunday.
The conference will be held today and will focus on green ship recycling and vehicle disposal. “The Union Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways, with Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) as an industry partner, are organizing a international conference on “Green Ship Recycling and Vehicle Scrapping” “in Gandhinagar on September 12,” reads a statement from the ministry.
The lecture will be followed by a visit to Alang shipbreaking yard, India’s ship recycling hub, the following day.
Union Minister for Shipping, Ports and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the international conference in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at Mahatma Mandir on September 12.
The conference will showcase the current status of the ship recycling industry in Gujarat and the adoption of HKC convention compliances. The conference will facilitate discussion on how the European Union (EU) shipping industry can take advantage of ship recycling facilities in Gujarat and explore partnerships with EU member countries.
Two sessions were organized as part of the one-day conference. The first session on Ship Recycling Industry in India and Compliances will focus on Ship Recycling Act, Role of GMB, Compliance with HKC and EU Ship Recycling Regulations ( EUSRR) and safe and sustainable recycling.
“The second session on Vehicle Scrappage Policy will see an overview of the policy, which aims to phase out old and unfit vehicles. It will also showcase Alang’s capabilities as a scrap metal hub for vehicles,” the statement added.
Representatives from the Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, global CEOs and national and international industry representatives from the maritime sector, including shipping companies, recyclers ships, shipowners, etc. should attend the conference. .
Participants will visit Alang shipbreaking yard on September 13th.
