Leeds United set to sign Italian international record holder

Leeds United still appear to have a shot at the end of the transfer market, with news that they could sign one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.

According fabrice romano, Leeds are close to a deal for FC Zurich winger Wilfried Gnonto. The 18-year-old is currently plying his trade in the Swiss top flight and Zurich were crowned champions last season. He is best known for his international exploits. With four Italian caps to his name, Gnonto became the youngest goalscorer in history this summer.

Romano says the deal is a matter of granting his work permit, but that should be a formality. Leeds fans may have to temper their expectations at first given that Gnonto is not a guaranteed starter for Zurich. In total, Gnonto made 74 appearances for Zurich, scoring 12 times and assisting 10 goals.

That said, he is still one of the hottest properties in European football. With a compact body, low center of gravity and tremendous dribbling ability, he should thrive in the Premier League sooner or later.
