POLK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — Law enforcement this week announced the seizure of 40 eight-line slot machines.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a facility Aug. 30 at 9353 U.S. Highway 59 North around 10 a.m.
“When these gambling places open, crime always increases in the area of the establishment. These crimes generally include armed robbery, illegal narcotics transactions, theft, stolen vehicles, burglary, assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct,” the sheriff’s office said.
Law enforcement has said it’s illegal to run a gambling business in Texas, and machines, money, property and paraphernalia used in such establishments are typically seized during a crisis. .
It’s not illegal to run these types of businesses if the prizes aren’t cash, but rather toys or novelties, according to the sheriff’s office.
On September 10, several eight-line machines were also seized from Lufkin.
